Historical Society
Origins
Established on October 4, 1976, the Durham Historical Society is a non-profit organization dedicated to collecting, preserving and advocating for Durham’s town history. Before the Union Church, meetings were held, in rotation, at various members' homes. In 1988, it was voted at a town meeting to turn responsibility for the operation and use of the Old Town hall over to the Durham Historical Society.

Now and then…
Durham’s a little town, nestled along the Androscoggin River. For a place that was once a bustling hub of Maine, it has gone decidedly sleepy. But hidden along its bucolic winding roads are historic troves. There are places and spaces where the echoes of its buzzing bygone era can still be heard and where the rumored ghosts of past residents still remain
